Gantner Electronic Locking & Access Management System

Some 6 years ago we started installing this system into a major Group of Clubs in Germany. To date there are some 100 of their Clubs, each with an average of 2,000+ members fully operational.

Another major Group in the U.K. two and a half years ago, carried out a trial at three of their Clubs and twelve months later commenced a programme to retrofit the majority of their Clubs in the U.K. of which to date over 100 are fully operational.

The benefits that justified installing this system include the following:-

  1. Dramatically reducing the number of members who have cancelled the direct debit, from using their Clubs free of charge.

    The smart chip has to be activated at Reception each time the member visits, otherwise they cannot proceed further, operate lockers or allow access to cash on the card

  2. Eliminates the personalisation of lockers overnight.

    All lockers can be programmed to automatically open at a pre-determined time to stop members leaving items in overnight.

  3. Eliminates attempted locker break ins

    All lockers are alarmed and should someone attempt to break in Reception is automatically alerted and can take action to apprehend the culprit

  4. Operates Sun Beds thus reducing the potential for income to go missing.

    Sun beds can only be operated through sessions or courses paid for through the card reducing the potential for fraud. Cards can also be programmed to restrict usage in line with health and Safety recommendations.

  5. The cash on card facility encourages additional ancillary spend.

    Through a series of discounts which can be self financing, members put cash on the card which can then be utilised for personal training, food and drink and other ancillary purchases

    One of our clients consistently has in excess of 100,000 euros paid in advance in each of their Clubs.

  6. Levying a returnable deposit makes the system self financing from cash flow.

    A refundable deposit of £15 - £25 for the smart card can provide sufficient free cash flow to finance the cost of the installation. Statistics to date show that around 40% of members return to claim this deposit.

    This provides the opportunity to conduct an EXIT SURVEY and, if appropriate, switch them to a low usage membership along the lines of £25 direct debit, followed by £5 each time they visit etc.

  7. Eliminates problems and expenditure from mechanical locks and keys

    Eliminates the cost of replacement keys, mechanical locks, pins and tags.

  8. The system provides full management information

    The software shows the popularity of individual lockers, the numbers occupied at peak times and the average length of occupancy which can help significantly in the management of the Club and in planning new developments.

  9. The system is a stimulus for members to always bring their card to the Club

    Reducing staff time in checking whether the individual is still a member

  10. Hotel guests and potential members can be accommodated.

    Day cards can be programmed and provided at reception for both hotel guests and members trying out the facility on special promotions.

The chip to operate the system can be housed in a

  • Smart card
  • A special non-metallic watch that can be used in saunas and swimming pools
  • A fob on a wrist band
  • A fob on a neck cord
  • Incorporated into your existing membership card.

With the smart card special holders are available to attaching to members workout gear or swimming costumes.

The system is compatible with most membership software via a link that is written for the relevant system.

Retrofitting of existing lockers does not present a problem as demonstrated by the large number of Clubs already converted.
